Job Description: Selected candidates are placed in either a Camp Counselor or Tour Guide position within the Park Operations department Education team at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Roles are responsible for leading both small and large groups throughout the park and overseeing the completion of activities and educational learning.
Position Responsibilities Include: Interns will be expected to perform the following daily responsibilities with regards to this specific internship position:
Responsible for the overall safety/well-being of guests in the park, overnight or during off-site field trips
Teach and implement education curriculum in an effective and timely manner
Team Members will be required to learn facts about the park, rides, shows, animals, and restaurants in order to lead camps and tours
Anticipate and willingly participate in designated duties: activity materials and equipment set-up and breakdown, classroom set-up and clean-up, team-building exercises, etc.
Provide guidance to guests keeping them on task and behaving appropriately
Knowledge of rules/operations, getting around the park and any field trip sites
Evaluate participants’ performance while on camps and tours
Serve as a positive role model for guests by adhering to company standards on wardrobe, conduct, safety, cleanliness, and timeliness at all times
Staff the Education and Tours building at Busch Gardens to up-sell guests on unique experiences offered at the park and to sell tours, dines, cruises, and educational experiences
Assist in maintenance and inventory of all supplies and equipment
Staff and operate Rhine River boats for special Rhine River Cruises such as for our Food & Wine or Bier Fest events
Assist park with other positions, based on demand, such as Ride Operations, Theatre Hosts, Area Hosts, and Guest Arrival
Complete other duties and assist team/park as needed
Intern Responsibilities Include: All interns will also be required to participate in the following learning and developmental activities throughout the summer as part of the overall Internship Program:
Attend seminars held by various departments within the park, including Culinary Operations, Design & Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Merchandise, Park Operations, and Zoological
Attend business, leadership, and professional development classes
Park tours with members of the park leadership team and duty managers
Planned meeting sessions with members of the park’s leadership team
Complete an Internship project where interns work together in small teams on an assignment designed to improve the park and present their final findings to senior park leadership at the end of the summer
Complete an evaluation process throughout the entire internship period designed to help selected candidates gain real job experience and develop/improve their performance
Requirements and Competencies:
Must be currently pursuing a college degree
Commit to working through the peak operating season (mid May– mid August)
Flexible availability (schedules include nights, weekends, and holidays)
Effective organizational skills, ability to effectively manage time, and ability to work without direct supervision.
Positive attitude plus ability to thrive in team work and solo work environments
Ability and willingness to work both indoors and outdoors
Minimum six months experience working with children in a camp or educational setting preferred.
Must be able to complete all federal, state, legal, company and department training requirements to include but not limited to passing required tests and certifications within established timelines. CPR and Lifeguard certification at time of hire preferred
Previous public speaking experience, teaching or camp counselor experience, or theatrical or stage performance experience preferred.
Experience working at an American Camping Association accredited facility preferred.
Previous theme park experience or knowledge of our parks is a plus
