Park Operations Business Intern - Security Officer (Seasonal)

Job Description: Selected candidates are placed in a Security Ambassador position and upon completion of all training promoted to a Security Officer Level I role with the park responsible for providing services and support to create a pleasant and safe atmosphere while protecting property, people, and information. Interns will also be required to participate in the following developmental activities throughout the summer:

Attend seminars held by various departments within the park, including Culinary Operations, Design & Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Merchandise, and Park Operations

Attend business, leadership, and professional development classes taught by park leadership

Park tours with members of the Park Operations leadership team

Planned meeting sessions with members of the park’s senior leadership team

Complete an Internship project where interns work with leaders throughout the park on an assignment designed to improve the park and its operations

Complete an evaluation process throughout the entire internship period designed to help selected candidates gain real job experience and develop/improve their performance during the entire length of the internship

Interns will also have the experience of front-line involvement, overseeing a team of employees and providing guidance and direction to their team as they interact with thousands of guests daily

Daily Responsibilities: Interns will be expected to perform the following responsibilities on a daily basis:

Foot/mobile patrol; maintaining high visibility and security presence, ensuring compliance with SEA rules and regulations, assisting with revenue escorts, and providing guest assistance where needed

Access control; issuance keys and allowing park access via gates and traffic points

Responding to park emergencies

Writing reports

Unarmed Security Officer Certification


In order to become a Security Officer you must successfully complete the requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Unarmed Security Officer. This process includes completing an 18 hour class and passing a background check conducted by the Virginia State Police. Classroom, fingerprint, and application fees are paid for by Busch Gardens. A commitment to work for at least 4 months as a Security Officer at either Busch Gardens Williamsburg or Water Country USA is required.


Requirements and Competencies

Must be currently pursuing a college degree

Valid Virginia driver’s license

Possess or ability to possess DCJS Private Security certification

Commit to working through the 2017 peak operating season (mid May– mid August) and a 4-month minimum employment term

Flexible availability (schedules include nights, weekend and holidays)

Excellent human relations and communication skills

Previous security or theme park experience is a plus
