Park Operations Business

Intern- Landscape Gardener

Job Description: Selected candidates are placed in a Landscape Gardener role with the park responsible for assisting in the production, installation, and maintenance of park landscaping and park floral displays. Interns will also be required to participate in the following developmental activities throughout the summer:

Attend seminars held by various departments within the park, including Culinary Operations, Design & Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Merchandise, and Park Operations

Attend business, leadership, and professional development classes taught by park leadership

Park tours with members of the Park Operations leadership team

Planned meeting sessions with members of the park’s senior leadership team

Complete an Internship project where interns work with leaders throughout the park on an assignment designed to improve the park and its operations

Complete an evaluation process throughout the entire internship period designed to help selected candidates gain real job experience and develop/improve their performance during the entire length of the internship

Interns will also have the experience of front-line involvement, overseeing a team of employees and providing guidance and direction to their team as they interact with thousands of guests daily

Daily Responsibilities: Interns will be expected to perform the following responsibilities on a daily basis:

Mow grass, string trim, edge beds and lawns, blow debris and leaves, sweep, prune, trim hedges, plant ornamental and annual color beds, produce container displays, mulch, pull weeds, pick up trash and assist in other aspects of landscape maintenance and construction

Responsible for the safe and proper operation of all vehicles, equipment and tools, and adhering to all proper safety procedures

Other landscape and greenhouse functions as required to maintain and develop landscape features on-site

Requirements and Competencies

Must be currently pursuing a college degree

Valid Virginia driver’s license, have a clean driving record, and possess the ability to operate a company vehicle

Commit to working through the 2018 peak operating season (mid May– mid August)

Flexible availability (schedules include early morning shifts, weekends and holidays)

Excellent human relations and communication skills

1 year of Landscape/Greenhouse or theme park experience is a plus

Locations and positions will be based upon applicant qualifications and availability. This is a paid internship and can be used for credits based on the requirements of your College or University. Please see your school for requirements.
